Excerpt from just one of the many letters I received after having included the phrase "the current anti-immigrant atmosphere" in a recent column:"Unfortunately you are mistaken in using the phrase 'anti-immigration atmosphere'. Many American citizens with brown, black, white, or even yellow skin are angry with ILLEGAL immigrants and the damage they have done to our country.

Williamsport - José 'Tony' Valentín, hijo, y Javier Valentín, dos ex jugadores de Grandes Ligas, intentaron llevar al equipo de su pueblo a una Serie Mundial de Pequeñas Ligas cuando eran niños pero no fue hasta que sus hijos y sobrinos jugaron bajo su papá, José Valentín, padre, que se realizaron sus sueños de ver a Manatí, Puerto Rico, representar al Caribe en Williamsport.

México thanks its liberators

President Felipe Calderón led a moving ceremony this month on (Aug. 15) in Mexico City to honor several of Mexico's national heroes associated with the Mexican War of Independence (1810-1821). The event involved transferring the remains of 14 heroes by caravan from Chapultepec Castle to the National Palace.

El presidente Felipe Calderón encabezó una ceremonia este mes (el 15 de agosto) en la Ciudad de México en honor de varios de los héroes nacionales mexicanos relacionados con la Guerra de Independencia de México (1810-1821). El evento incluyó la transferencia de los restos mortales de 14 héroes por caravana desde el Castillo de Chapultepec hasta el Palacio Nacional.

It's bad enough that Arizona is going crazy with xenophobia. Now that virus has spread to our own backyards—to our local unions.  It's all a bit perplexing, since so many immigrants, legal and illegal alike, belong to unions and are even courted by these very unions in their attempt to recruit more members. In fact, during the immigration marches several years ago unions marched in support of immigration reform and legalization. Even now, with the increasingly depressed economy, many still remain committed to a legalization program. However, there are bad apples everywhere and apparently some have dropped off of the trees in the greater Delaware Valley
